Friends has ended, and I didn't think I would be as upset about it as I am. I didn't start watching the show until the end of the fourth season; we caught the last few episodes, and then Laura, my dad and I watched everything else that summer in syndication. I've missed quite a bit of the episodes this season, and a few from last season, and I do think that the quality had declined a bit, but it was still a great show. And I'm definitely going to miss it; it's amazing how many jokes and lines of dialogue and words I've incorporated into my own lexicon. I mean, I don't even realize I'm doing a Friends quote when I tell someone that it's a moo point, could they
be any louder? that what they just said
isn't even a word! that after they've said something strange, I tell them that they're so pretty. And so on. Maya said earlier tonight that it was sad seeing the apartment empty, because it felt so familiar, and it's true. Friends was one of those things that was always there. You can turn on the TV at almost any time of the day and catch an episode, and I suppose that you will be able to for a long time yet, but there will be nothing new. Which is sad.
I'd like to commemorate with my top five favorite Friends moments, which are all fresh in my mind thanks to the special beforehand.
5) The Routine.
4) "What's not to like? Custard? Good. Jam? Good. Meat? Gooooood."
3) The leather pants. "The lotion and powder have combined to make some kind of paste!"
2) Ross's bleached teeth. I honestly don't know that I've ever laughed harder in my life than when she turned the black light on.
1) "The One With the Embryos." There's too much to cut it down to one moment. Definitely my favorite episode of the series. "Actually, it's Miss Chanandelor Bong." "I majored in lightning rounds, all right? We're gonna destroy you." "Standard shotgun rules: I'm in sight of the room and I call it." "What was Monica's nickname when she was a field-hockey goalie?" "Big fat goalie!"
Sniff.
