Has anyone else read The Hunger Games trilogy?  (Well, the third book doesn't come out till next week, I think, but you know what I mean.)  I just started the second book, and this is probably some of the best YA fiction I've read.  It doesn't hurt that it's very, very dark (and every now and then I come across a passage or something that is implied and think, well, there's another school that's tossed this out or received a parental complaint) - it actually reminds me a little bit...not in tone, but in universe, perhaps, to The Gift by Lois Lowry, which is one of my favorites.  Anyway, if you haven't, I recommend it - they're quick reads, too, which for me is always good, since I feel like I'm continually slogging through some non-fiction and it's nice to just be able to sit back and read a book in a few days.

I was going to update my blog today with my doings of the past few weeks, but instead I worked today and now I have to finish this book TONIGHT (Mindhunter, true crime, it has already inspired me to revise a scene in Fall River hell yeah), so I will leave you with what I plan to do tomorrow instead, since I haven't watched an episode in almost two months:

It's getting to be that time of year again, when Thanksgiving is something you plan for and not just a vague, turkey-scented possibility on the horizon, when you start thinking about Christmas presents and finding decorations. You know. The time of year I start rereading Lord of the Rings in preparation for watching all the movies and specials and behind the scenes features, a process that if I start now, I might finish by New Years.

It's also the time of year when Canada's like, "Oh, hey, WANT SOME WIND?" I had to close my car door with both hands today.

I just started reading The Golden Compass, off a recommendation from Dan, who also lent me the books. (I'm making him read the Mars trilogy, ahaha.) I really like reading YA fiction, in general, just because at the end of the day they're usually pretty good stories. I've been stocking up on my old favorites when I go to Half Price Books, and they're quick reads at that. Being as how it takes me a month now to get through a book, I appreciate one I can finish in a week.

Anyway, so far I'm really enjoying it. It's actually a lot more sophisticated than most YA books I'm used to, and a hell of a lot darker. So far, there've been severed heads, kidnapped children, and the young female protagonist has gotten drunk and smoked. Oh, England.

Boy, am I glad I got the coffee ready last night, so all I had to do was lurch into the kitchen and press the button. This morning was...difficult, to say the least.

I'm so busy with school that it's important to find small projects that aren't school related so I don't get burnt out. Tonight I catalogued all my books into a program called Library Thing. Here's my online library, which I think is pretty cool. I can buy another 50 or so books before I have to upgrade to the paid account, so I should be good for a couple of years, I would hope. It was amazing, but I think a good half of my books were from school, that I hadn't bothered to sell back.

And now I'm three weeks behind on Heroes and 24. Awesome.
