It be hard to believe I forgot today were Talk Like a Pirate Day. 'Tis a prodigious shame, it is, that I ain't been annoying all me family, but perhaps all things considered, 'twere for the best.
Anyways, we went running with my Grandpa today, and paperbacks are 8 for a dollar at the Salvation Army. Score! I even picked up a couple I haven't read before, which is not my usual book-buying practice. Laura got a great, really tall and narrow mirror, with fancy curly-cue detailing, for $2.50. There was a mini-apothecary end table for $35, and I'm hoping it will still be there next week when I get my paycheck. All it needs is a strip and refinish, which I can probably get my dad to do, as he likes projects; it's small enough I shouldn't have any trouble finding a place for it.

My life has been SO BORING lately, which is why I haven't posted. Because there is nothing to post. My grandpa has eight or ten apple trees, and a couple-three pear trees, and Laura and I decided this year that letting most of the fruit rot on the ground is a horrible waste; we've been cooking and canning every weekend. Pear sauce, pear halves, applesauce, apple butter, sliced apples in freezer bags, et cetera. We both feel very Baby Boom about the whole thing.
Sasha, the kitten we found in the middle of the road, is now a sleek little cat, who incidentally just got fixed. My previous experience with male animals post-neuter is that they come home and whine and mope for a day, lamenting their poor, lost balls. Sasha seems to not have noticed their absence, for his behavior changed not at all, which is not what we were hoping for. Because he's a very bad cat that is determined to use the entire house as his litter box, except for his actual litter box. Sigh.
I've hit a roadblock in the script. I know exactly what happens next, and how the scenes play out; it's one of those where I know how long it will take to write it out, and it's already there in my head, and it just kind of...makes me not want to write. I don't really know how else to explain it.
I watched the first two episodes of Big Love this weekend, and I think Bill Paxton's magic age is whatever age he is right now. Although, seriously, HBO. We get it. You're premium, so you don't have to censor yourselves. Think about what you actually need for your storytelling, and what you're just throwing in there because you can. Seriously, HBO. HBO, seriously.
This past week I saw two different commercials, for shows on two different networks, that used an apostrophe in making a plural. I weep for the future of the English language, I really do. (Goddamn it, TLC! It's: "I dos," not, "I do's." I don't care that it looks like the Spanish word for two without the apostrophe! You don't use an apostrophe to make a plural! Ever! That goes for you, too, History Channel, with your "UFO's.")

For you guys:
The banner above, so beautiful.
And the full-size of that ~*amazing*~ manipulation from the corner here.

Hey, guys! I'm not dead! I just had one of those weeks where I'm like, "Eh, the internet. I've read it already." That coupled with writer's block sprung from the depression wrought from the numerous rejections, plus all the stuff with Dad and an unexpected 24-hour visit last weekend from Marshall, well, it's been an odd time.
Books
37. The Pale Horseman, Bernard Cornwell. 8-2.
38. Foundation and Earth, Isaac Asimov. 8-3.
39. The Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes, Neil Gaiman. 8-4.
40. The Sandman: The Doll’s House, Neil Gaiman. 8-7.
41. Lords of the North, Bernard Cornwell. 8-9.
42. The Sandman: Dream Country, Neil Gaiman. 8-9.
43. The Sandman: Season of Mists, Neil Gaiman. 8-19.
Movies
That's right, there are no movies. What with watching two seasons of XF and the Olympics, there were no new movies. Also, August is such a dumping ground for awful stuff, there wasn't a single thing that came out I cared to go see. I honestly thought I watched more movies than I have this year, but I guess not.
Sarah and I are having a hell of a time watching Anasazi. It wasn't on the last S2 disc from the library. I searched their system - nothing. Checked the shelves - nothing. Finally, went to the AV desk, where of course the main guy was working. He's very...brusque, I think the word is. Anyway, he checked the same things I did (in customer service, I know, always assume the complainer hasn't done the simplest things first ["Did you turn it off and back on?"], but still, dude, when I told you I checked that means I did), then got online in a huff. And found out that Amazon knows the set they sell is TOTALLY MISSING THE LAST DISC, and they sell it anyway. You have to complain and they'll send you the missing disc, which, like, how does that fit into your thing? What a joke; I'd return the whole set and find it elsewhere. Anyway, he was all, "I must deal with this shenanigans promptly!" and then gruffed off. Now I'm downloading just that episode, which is kind of a pain.
I just feel like pointing out it's only 60 degrees outside today. Fall fall fall fall fall! It's my very favorite season.
