I told myself I wasn't going to do a new post until I finished my frakking Dr. Horrible icons already (am a third finished), but being as how my laptop has been in its case for a solid week now, I decided that the blog wasn't what was holding me back.

Caroline was here last week, which was much fun, being as how I hadn't seen her since we graduated in '04. We had dinner, the guidelines for picking a restaurant being, "A place with lots of meat," and indeed, there was meat. We got to talk for a bit, and I hope it was a nice rest stop on the way to LA.

Thursday night Laura, Sarah and I stayed at a hotel, as a mini-vacation, where we either read or watched Arrested Development. So that was fun. It was just very peaceful, and quiet, and cool (we had the little air conditioner set at 52 degrees, aha), and a very nice little break before everyone goes back to school/work.

Marshall's birthday was last Friday, and it was just as much fun as you might expect.

This is my last week before subbing again. Sigh. This will definitely be my last year doing this, as nice as it is to write and all and be at home, because I have to do something at some point. So the purse straps are getting cinched, and hopefully I can bank as much as possible for what might be some income-free times to come in the future. Before that, though, I bought a bento box! I found one online for five dollars, and got it yesterday, and it's totally adorable and I love it. I made a lunch today, just to see how much I could fit in and to test it out: one cannot fit much food into a bento box, but that's kind of the point. Excuse the poor picture quality of my cell phone:

In the top tray, left to right, are apricot halves and almonds, prunes and a strawberry (which gives you a good size reference point), and a tiny salad with Caesar vinaigrette. In the bottom tray are egg crepe roll-ups with turkey, cheddar and basil (meant to emulate sushi rolls), celery and carrots. Eee.

I FINALLY FINISHED MY DR. HORRIBLE DESKTOP! It only took, like, three days. Here it is: tada!

I was going to make a batch of icons, too, but I can Photoshop tonight no more forever. Whew.

Rondo allegro from Symphonie Espagnole in D minor, Op. 21, Edouard Lalo. Joshua Bell, violin. (This is one of my very favorites; I listen to it all the time, especially when I listen to my nightly classical to help me fall asleep.)

Ghost in the Machine!

Ice!

It's interesting, because both these episodes are essentially rip-offs of classic SF films, 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Thing respectively. But GitM is not a very good episode, and Ice is fantastic, and a classic. I think GitM could have been a good episode, and I don't know if it was budget or sfx technology that held them back, but there was a distinct lack of menace in that computer and building, whereas Ice is a very chilling (haha) episode, because what scares us more than anything? Ourselves, and each other, and the simple fact that when it comes down to it, we're still unpredictable, angry animals.

III. Sonata in G major, presto, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Great Piano Concertos.

Shadows!

Saw The Dark Knight today; it was very good, but I think it was too overhyped, because I ended up expecting a life-changing experience, and it was merely a very good movie. Heath was incredible, though. At this point, I would be surprised if he didn't score a nomination.
